David B. Hermelin ORT Resource Center
The David B. Hermelin ORT Resource Center, located in the D. Dan and Betty Kahn Jewish Community Center, serves as a technological resource for Jewish educators and provides students of all ages with the opportunity to explore Jewish history and culture in an exciting and innovative way through creative multi-media projects. In addition, the Center offers job training programs for Orthodox women from the local Detroit community.
Trained professionals offer an individualized, active approach to learning and enliven Jewish education through hands-on training, technical support, educational technology workshops and software and curricular reviews. The Center, which includes the CyberORT Café, the ORTnet Learning Lab and the ORT M2 Studio for state-of-the-art multimedia projects, was established as a joint venture initiated by American ORT, Women's American ORT and ORT Operations USA, in partnership with the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
The David B. Hermelin ORT Resource Center was named in honor of the late David B. Hermelin, US Ambassador to Norway from 1997 to 2000, who served as president of American ORT and World ORT. Ambassador Hermelin dedicated his life to the belief that education is the best response to ending hunger and poverty, while leading to the preservation of human dignity.
