ORT E-Learning Center, fall 2010
The ORT Learning center is getting ready for a new year. The center will open its doors for a new exciting year, offering our community a fresh new array of services for the local Jewish day school student population.
In the last year, it has become apparent that many in our community need much help with completing their high school education. This need is particularly synergetic with the skills we developed at Bramson ORT. Many of our local day school students are finding it extremely difficult to complete their GED, as well as Regents testing mandated by the state of New York. In the last year we had much need for Regents preparation, from students who were ill prepared for secular curriculum. We have prepared students for their History, Earth science, Math, English as well as Bio Regents. This year we are hoping to focus on this need! As part of our ongoing work, we will introduce the learning center to local high school principals, as well as community workers and parents. We will extend our outreach to more events where this focus can be stressed and our work introduced.
In addition, we will be offering SAT classes to the general public, in the hope of creating income revenue.
The center has offered much needed help to the Chabad Boys, who often need tutorials in order to excel in their Bramson coursework.
The center was instrumental in opening a new program designed to help Jewish orthodox women attain professional qualifications. Our first group started last year. The girls are preparing to become Doctors in Occupational Therapy. Bramson ORT provided the science core curriculum required. The learning center assisted the girl in keeping up with their Bramson ORT work. The girls often come with very little secular studies background, and hence needed to do much catching up.
In the coming year we are working on further cooperation with local Jewish orthodox grassroots organizations to extend Bramson ORT offering for this population.
